Search and Command Palette
As your club grows, you will have more players, more leagues, and more pages to manage. Instead of clicking through menus to find what you need, ServeLeague includes a command palette that lets you search for anything and jump to it instantly. Think of it as a spotlight search for your entire club. This tutorial shows you how to open it, what you can find, and how to get around like a power user.
Step 1: Open the Command Palette
There are two ways to open the command palette:
- Keyboard shortcut: Press Cmd+K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux. This works from any page in ServeLeague.
- Search icon: Click the search icon (🔍) in the top navigation bar. On smaller screens, you may see it in the header menu.
A search overlay will appear in the center of the screen with a text input at the top and a list of suggestions below.

[!TIP] The keyboard shortcut is the fastest way to get around. Once you build the habit of pressing Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K), you will rarely need to use the sidebar navigation for finding things.
Step 2: Search for Anything
Start typing in the search box. As you type, results appear instantly below, organized into categories:
- Pages: Go to any page in your club (Dashboard, Settings, Members, Leagues, etc.)
- Players: Find a specific player by name
- Leagues: Jump to a league by name
- Actions: Quick shortcuts to common tasks
Results update with every keystroke. You do not need to press Enter to search. The palette filters as you type and highlights the matching text in each result.

How Results Are Organized
Results are grouped under category headings. Pages and actions always appear first because they are the most common targets. Player and league results follow. Each result shows:
- An icon indicating the type (page, player, league, or action)
- The name or title
- A brief description or path to help you confirm it is the right item
If your search matches items in multiple categories, all matching categories are shown. If there are no matches, a friendly "No results found" message appears.
Step 3: Get Around with the Keyboard
You do not need to use the mouse. The command palette is fully keyboard-accessible:
- ↑ / ↓ arrow keys move the highlight up and down through results
- Enter opens the highlighted result
- Escape closes the palette without navigating
The first result is highlighted by default, so if the top result is what you want, type your query and press Enter right away.
[!NOTE] The command palette remembers your recent selections. Items you have visited recently may appear higher in the results, making repeat navigation even faster.
Step 4: Search for a Player
One of the most common uses of the command palette is finding a specific player. Type part of a player's name and you will see matching players appear under the Players category.
Click (or press Enter) on a player result to go directly to that player's profile page, where you can see their match history, rating, and league participation.

[!TIP] You do not need to type the full name. Typing "joh" will match "John Smith", "Johnson Lee", and any other player whose name contains those letters.
Step 5: Use Quick Actions
The command palette is not only for navigation. It also provides quick actions that let you start common tasks without visiting a page first. For example:
- Create League: Opens the league creation form
- Add Player: Opens the add player form
- Start Session: Begins a new session in a league
Quick actions appear under the Actions category. They are especially useful when you know exactly what you want to do and do not want to click through multiple pages to get there.

Tips for Power Users
Here are a few ways to get even more out of the command palette:
- Jump to settings pages by typing "settings". You will see results for Club Settings, League Settings, and more.
- Find a league fast by typing the first few letters of its name. If you have a "Monday Night League", typing "mon" gets you there in two keystrokes plus Enter.
- Chain actions: After completing a quick action (like creating a league), press Cmd+K again to immediately start the next task. You can move through your admin to-do list without touching the sidebar.
- Use it on mobile too. The search icon in the header opens the same palette on phones and tablets. The keyboard shortcut is not available on mobile, but the search icon is always there.
Summary
The command palette is ServeLeague's fastest way to get around your club. Press Cmd+K (or Ctrl+K), type a few letters, and jump directly to any page, player, league, or action. It saves time, reduces clicks, and becomes even more valuable as your club grows.
